The spotlight will be on the women as badminton courts at the multipurpose stadium in Sanquelim are getting decked up to host a unique women-centric event. Organised by Sanquelim Shuttlers in collaboration with the Goa Badminton Association (GBA) on December 12 and 13, 40 women badminton players from across Goa have registered to compete in the exclusive women’s doubles tournament which kicks off at 4.45 pm.
Speaking about the upcoming event, Yeshwant Desai, President, Sanquelim Shuttlers, said, "The aim of organising tournaments is to provide platforms for talented emerging players to showcase their skills and help them in providing exposure to more and more competitions which will ultimately help them to improve and improvise further in Badminton."
In addition to the 20 doubles pairs who will compete, there are also on-spot events, competitions and felicitations that have been lined up with an all-round focus on boosting women empowerment through sport. "We congratulate Sanquelim Shuttlers for taking the lead in partnering with GBA to organise this special women-centric event. Events like these can shape the future of women’s sports and have a very positive impact on the game," stated Sandeep Heble, the Secretary of Goa Badminton Association, while commending Sanquelim Shuttlers on their novel initiative.
Earlier, Yeshwant Desai was unanimously elected as President of Sanquelim Shuttlers and Kunal Khanvilkar as Secretary for upcoming four-year term. Following committee members were unanimously elected: Pralhad Dhawaskar (Vice President), Prasad Ajgaonkar (Joint Secretary), Sachin Prabhu (Treasurer), Rohidas Ghadi (Jt Treasurer), Bala Sawant, Mustaffa Abdullah, Jayesh Patel, Siddhesh Amonkar, Karan Dhawaskar, Shyam Pednekar, Krishna Volvoikar, Pravin Gaonkar and Anand Sutar (Executive committee members).
