Betalbatim Sporting Club advanced to the semifinals of the 8th Martin’s Cup after edging past Shiroda Youth Club 9–8 in a penalty shoot-out at the Panchayat Ground, Betalbatim, on Friday.
The quarterfinal ended 2–2 at the end of regulation time. Klusner Pereira and Selroy Fernandes scored for the hosts, while Shiroda YC mounted a strong comeback through goals from Elias Colaco and Flint Dias to force the match into a tie-breaker.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Betalbatim SC held their nerve and proved to be the more accurate side, sealing their place in the semifinals.
Joel D’Silva of Betalbatim delivered an outstanding performance and was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Edward Mathias.
