Margao Sports Club advanced to the semifinals of the Fr Agnelo inter-village football tournament after the side registered a solitary goal win against Uguem Rising Club.
The tournament is being organised by the Fr. Agnelo Sports and Cultural Club, Paroda, and played at the panchayat ground, Avedem.
Margao Sports Club stamped their authority in the first half and this domination bore fruit when Shubert Cotta broke the deadlock in the 18th minute as he calmly finished off a well-timed assist from his teammate to find the back of the net.
Post-resumption, Uguem Rising Club fought hard to find the equaliser with every possible effort. The persistance paid off when the Uguem side maintained sustained pressure on the Margao defence line. However, the strong and disciplined defensive display by the opposition back line saw them defend like a rock, denying Uguem the equaliser and ensuring a spot in the last four stage.
