National Supercross Championship returns to Goa

MARGAO

The MRF MoGrip–FMSCI National Supercross Championship 2025 is set to return to Goa in grand fashion, with Round 5 scheduled for November 29 and 30 at the event ground behind Zudio, Navelim.

After a considerable break, Supercross is back in the state on a newly designed 800-metre dirt track featuring 10 jumps, tabletops, whoops, and berms, promising two days of high-octane racing.

Supported by the Goa Ministers for Sports, PWD, and the Navelim constituency, and organised in association with Sirvodem Racing Club, the event will see over 120 riders from across India competing across nine categories, making it one of the country’s premier off-road two-wheeler racing spectacles.

Addressing the media, Shyam Kothari—the seven-time national motocross champion—spoke passionately about the sport, describing Supercross as the ultimate expression of a rider’s bond with the machine. The Pune-based veteran, the only Indian to have clinched national titles in motocross, rally, and dirt cross, has spent 25 years in motorsports. Though he retired from active racing in 1996–97, he has since embarked on a successful second innings as an organiser.

Top factory teams including HERO Racing and TVS Racing will headline the event, with leading riders such as 2024 champion Shlok Ghorpade, Rugved Barguge, Ikshan Shanbhag, and Prajwal V competing in the elite SX1 Class. Junior categories for riders aged 10 to 16 will also take centre stage.

Kothari explained that Supercross involves high-speed racing on an engineered dirt track filled with steel jumps and technical obstacles. He added that the Goa round will be the second-last leg of the championship, which will conclude in Visakhapatnam. Former motor race champions Allan Sequeira and Javed Shaikh also addressed the media.

Scrutiny and official practice will take place on November 29, while the main races will flag off at 12:30 pm on November 30.
