The cancellation of the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in India has come as a big disappointment for Goan duo of  Daisy Crasto and Karen Estrocio.

The two players were part of the India squad preparing for the marquee event, which has now been moved to 2022. However, the change in dates means the current set of players won't be eligible to take part in the tournament due to the age criteria.

Daisy's coach Angelo Silva, the physical education teacher and coach of Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna, is not a happy man as the postponement has cost his ward.

“I am very disappointed that she won't have a chance to play this World Cup. She worked hard in the preparatory camp and now it has been cancelled. It's sad that the tournament is not taking place,” Silva said.

The coach said Daisy will keep working hard to represent the country at the AFC and international under-19 tournaments. Silva, who groomed Daisy to play in various school competitions, was all praise for her. “She is intelligent, tactful and a sound footballer. She understands her role and is adaptable,” he said.

The young lass from Assolna had represented the India U-15 team at SAFF Championship in Bhutan in 2019, which India won.

Meanwhile, Karen made her debut for Albert Developers at a young age after getting trained at GFDC by coach Sujata Murgaonkar. She represented India at the Reliance Cup in Kolkata and scored three goals in the tournament. The impressive performance earned her a spot in the preparatory camp for Under-17 Women's World Cup.
