Sporting Club Davorlim held their nerve in a dramatic tiebreaker to overcome a spirited Carmona SC 5-3 and book a spot in the semifinals of the 19th Super Soccer Football Tournament, played at the St John de Baptista football ground on Sunday.
Davorlim started brightly, with forwards M Ajay Raj and Vellroy Colaco constantly threatening the Carmona defence. The early pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Colaco flicked in a precise cross from Ajay Raj, giving Davorlim a deserved 1-0 lead.
Carmona SC regrouped after the break and showed renewed urgency. Striker Ronan Ferrao came close to equalising but was denied by the post, and his second effort moments later went over the crossbar. Their persistence finally paid off just two minutes before full-time when Darren Estebeiro set up Asley Pinto for the equaliser, pushing the match into a penalty shootout.
In the tiebreaker, Davorlim converted through Prince Figueiredo, M Ajay Raj, Aaren Figueiredo, and Milton Colaco. For Carmona, only Darren Estebeiro and Stanford Fernandes managed to score. Darren Estebeiro of Carmona SC was named Man of the Match and received the award from Pele Fernandes.
