30 year old hospital hasn't treated a single patient

Varde Kurdi hospital has a roof which is ripped off

30 year old hospital hasn't treated a single patient

A full-fledged hospital constructed around 30 years back atVade-Kurdi, in Sanguem lies in shambles.

Basically meant for the people who were affected by theSelaulim dam, the hospital was built by the water resource department way backin 1980s.

The hospital building lies in a dilapidated condition andpart of the roof has been ripped off. Most of the equipment like fans,tube-lights, doors, windows and wash basins has disappeared from the hospital.

Due to a tussle between the health and the water resourcedepartment, the hospital project worth crores of rupees never took off, asource informed. (explain this)

“We have to travelnearly 30 kilometers to Sanguem during a medical emergency. The hospital atSanguem too is in a bad shape. So we have to travel another 30 kms to reach theHospicio Hospital in Margao,” Supriya Naik, a local said.

The hospital when it was built was well-equipped with keyfacilities including an operation theater, ICU and other necessities. Butalmost all the equipment like fans, tube lights, doors, windows, basins etcinstalled in the hospital have disappeared.

But surprisingly WRD officials have failed to file a singlecomplaint in the police station.

Rain water leaking from a broken roof has damaged most ofthe wooden and iron structures in the hospital.

“We pleaded and protested with concerned authorities tostart the functioning of the hospital, but none of the previous governmentshave taken any step to start it,” said Joseph Cardozo a local from Vaddemvillage.

The Sanguem MLA, Subhash Faldesai promised to take up thematter with the WRD first and find out if it is possible to repair thehospital. “I will also raise the issue before the chief minister,” Faldesaisaid.

More than more 4000 people stay in the Vade-Kurdi.
