Sanguem cops crack down on parking violators on MLA’s instruction

If you thought that parking was a problem only in the largertowns of Panjim, Margao, Mapusa and Vasco, then think again.

Areas as remote as in Sanvordem-Curchorem too have begun toexperience parking problems. Sanvordem-Curchorem shopkeepers have demanded immediatesolution to the problem by notifying places for parking.

The issue of parking began to grab eyeballs soon after local MLANilesh Cabral warned Curchorem traffic cell to streamline vehicular traffic inthe town. On the MLA's instruction traffic cops started issuing challans tothose who violated traffic rules.

“The police action has come so suddenly. There was no warning orawareness whatsoever,” a livid Curchorem resident Akshay Sanvordekar said.

According to Sanguem resident, Samir Bhandari the problem ofparking mainly occurs in the morning, afternoon and evening. “This problemshould be sorted out as early as possible,” he said.

Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes admitted that market area was facingparking problem mainly due to mismanagement of traffic. “We will try to notify afew places within the market as pay parking,” Fernandes said.

“Police approach us telling us that we cannot park vehicles. Sowhere do we park? Don’t the authorities know that they have to designatecertain places for parking,” asks Supriya Naik.  She has urged the local MLA to intervene in thematter and come out with an early solution.

The shopkeepers association has condemned the sudden police actof issuing fines to public and demanded a provision for vehicular parking. “Wewill be thankful to our MLA if he can sort out the issue urgently,” the shopkeeperssaid.
