The Sancoale Panchayat has decided to crack down on illegal parking of vehicles, including trucks trailer and jeeps, by the open space along the highway near MES College junction.
The Sancoale panchayat body led by the Sarpanch Girish Pillai, Ward Panch Nandini Dessai, Panch Govind Lamani, Panchayat Secretary and others conducted a joint inspection of the area on Monday morning.
According to information, a lot of trucks, trailers and other vehicles are parked on the service road near the highway, causing public obstruction and locals complained that drivers also indulge in antisocial activities.
After the inspection, Sarpanch Girish Pillai said all establishments have been given a strict warning not to allow any parking in the area.
“The panchayat has also decided to issue notice of 7 days to clear the vehicles present in the area. Besides, we are also writing to Verna PI, Traffic Department, RTO and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha to help us stop the illegal parking menace in the area.”
“We had received many complaints that these people who park vehicles here also create garbage and drink after parking and throw bottles everywhere creating a nuisance. When anyone questions them, they say that they pay parking fees to Panchayat which is false and we will act on such illegal parking and initiate strict actions,” said Pillai.
Ward Panch Nandini Dessai said the residential colony of Vidhyanagar in the area had complained about the parking and illegal handcarts at the MES College junction after evening hours.
“The president of Vidhyanagar Colony Welfare Association and Panchayat body have come here because we had tried talking to these establishments before, but they have not obliged.”
“Secondly, many constructions have come up in the area but their sewage set up is not right and they have left sewage water in open spaces. We need to take up action against illegal parking. The establishment have taken trade license for one work and are doing something else here. This is a service road and not a parking lot,” said Dessai.
President of Vidhyanagar Residents Welfare Association Eddie Fernandes said that he did not want MES College junction to be like Dabolim junction, where there was complete traffic chaos and requested the Panchayat to take strict action on illegal parking of the vehicle on the service road meant to cater to the residential colonies near MES College.
“Panchayat body has heard now our demands. This is an accident-prone zone and illegal gaddas and carts are selling their stuff at the junction in the evening which can pose danger to motorists. Trailers have been parked here for several months and we are hopeful that some solution will come up,” said Fernandes.
