CAMPUS | Rosary College celebrates Founder’s Day with prize distribution

MARGAO

Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, celebrated its Founder’s Day and Annual Prize Distribution on February 28 with a programme that combined academic recognition with vibrant cultural performances.

The celebration began with a welcome dance, followed by the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Chief guest Lucio Alexander Dias was introduced by Zamila Pecheco and later presented with a potted plant and memento as a token of appreciation.

Principal Helic M Barretto highlighted the institution’s achievements during the academic year and congratulated students for their dedication and accomplishments. He encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in both academics and personal growth. A mime performance titled “Trapped in the Screen” followed, conveying a message about the impact of excessive screen time in the digital age.

Administrator Gabriel Coutinho appreciated the collective efforts of the management, faculty and students in upholding the values and legacy of the institution. A duet performance of the song “Aago Mhojea Sundorea” added a cultural element to the programme.

The annual report of the college was presented by Jeronimo D’Silva, who outlined academic milestones, co-curricular achievements, extension activities and the overall progress made during the year. The first phase of the prize distribution ceremony honoured students for academic excellence in the 2024–25 aided courses.

Cultural performances continued with a skit titled “Kudd Inga, Mon Tinga”, which entertained the audience while delivering a social message. In his address, Dias commended the college for promoting holistic education and emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity and service to society.

The programme also witnessed the release of college publications, including Rosary Compass, Navoday, Seasons, Phoenix and Casefolio, highlighting the literary and creative talents of students and faculty.

The second phase of academic prize distribution for self-financed courses was held later, followed by an instrumental performance. Students were also recognised for achievements in various fields during the non-academic prize distribution for 2025–26. A traditional mando performance titled “Sonsunk Re Nezo” reflected Goan cultural heritage.

One of the highlights of the event was the crowning of Mr and Ms Rosary 2025–26. The titles were awarded to Vanessa Laxmikanta Gaunencar (TYBCom) and Deepraj Damodar Gaonkar (TYBA).

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by General Secretary Jahir Khan. The event was compered by Abigail Baptista and Joshua Fernandes and organised under the guidance of cultural coordinator Venisha Fernandes.
