This announcement was made by Eddie Udagawa, vice president, consumer imaging and information centre, Canon India. Udagawa was in Goa to launch the new CIS store.
Speaking to mediapersons, Udagawa said, “With the new store at Margao, the number of CIS stores has touched 232 in India. This store is very important for customers, as they can get hands-on experience of our entire range of products here.”
India has emerged as a very important market for Japanese manufacturing giant, Canon.
Udagawa said, “In the market of digital SLR cameras, we are number one company in India going by market share. We want to capture more than 50 per cent of this market in this year.”
Udagawa also said that Canon India’s revenue in monetary terms through imaging business jumped by 12 per cent in the calendar year 2016. But, he said that the unit growth stood at a massive 30 per cent.
“In 2017, our target is to grow rupee revenue by more than 10 per cent,” he said.
Admitting that with the advent of mobile phones with cameras, the market for non-SLR digital cameras has slowed down, Udagawa said,
“If you want to take photos of precious moments, which you would like
to share with your family members, you better use a proper camera, else you will regret.”
