BARF stands for Basic Ancestral Raw Food. BARF diet is made up of raw meats, bones, organ meats, fruits, vegetables and some herbs, which comes very close to the diet of dogs and wolves, which live in the wild.
Speaking on the occasion, Fernandes said, “We are the only company in India, which is into the business of raw food for pets. People make diet for their dogs out of raw meat at home, but it often lacks the essential nutrients.”
He further said, “We have been feeding our dogs and cats packaged food, which has a lot of chemicals and preservatives, which aren’t good for the health of dogs and cats. This is the reason that pets get diseases like heart ailments, kidney malfunctioning, diabetes, which was unheard of few decades back.”
Fernandes’s company is called B.A.R.F. India, which has a manufacturing unit for pet food at Sanguem.
Fernandes said, “People can visit our site www.barfindia.com and place orders. Doing this, we ensure that the pet food is stored in cold storage at right temperature. We manage the logistics ourselves. The moment an order is placed, our delivery team swings into action to deliver the order at customer’s door-step.”
It was also informed that B.A.R.F. India is in advanced talks to tap the markets of Middle-East and Sri Lanka as well. Fernandes said, “The size of pet food market in Middle East is $100 million. Sri Lanka’s market is smaller than this.”
