A delegation of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Friday met Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to understand Goa’s vision of development and to also discuss areas of working together. The delegation included CII Western Region’s chairman, Sudhir Mehta, CII Goa Council chairman, Shekhar Sardessai, and CII Western Region’s director, Saugat Mukherjee.
Speaking to mediapersons at a press conference, Mehta said, “We met CM at his residence to discuss how CII can work together with the government on improving tourism in the State. We also discussed how high-yielding agriculture products like spices can help the cause of agriculture.”
Mehta continued, “We also had a discussion on the start-up scenario with the CM. We think that areas like cyber security and gaming are suitable to Goa to develop as industries. CII has a centre for start-ups and incubation at Delhi which can be of help in this regard.”
Elaborating further on why he thinks that Goa should focus on creating cyber security industry, Mehra said, “Cyber security is an area where you require high quality talent. Because of the living conditions in Goa, where life is relatively stress-free, young people would like to work here.”
Mehta even said that defence manufacturing is a key area for Goa, and CII can work with the state government to get more investments in this regard.
The State government had set up the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) in 2014 as a single window clearance for all industrial approvals. This was expected to improve the ease of doing business.
When asked how he would rate Goa on ease of doing business, Mehta said, “I would say that there is scope for improvement on this parameter across western region of India.”
