To tackle excessive scrolling, parents will soon be able to set a time limit for the Shorts feed on supervised teen accounts. The new control allows families to restrict or even fully disable Shorts by setting the timer to zero, helping teens focus on homework or get proper sleep. Custom “Bedtime” and “Take a Break” reminders will also be added to encourage healthier viewing habits.
Push for high-quality content
YouTube said it has worked with experts from the American Psychological Association and UCLA to develop principles that separate low-quality from high-quality teen content. These guidelines will shape recommendations so that teens are shown more educational and enriching videos from trusted creators.
Simpler account switching
An updated onboarding experience will allow parents to create children’s accounts and switch between family profiles on the mobile app with only a few taps, ensuring everyone gets age-appropriate content and settings.
