Headline: Lakaki Drycleaners go green with solar power

Solar energy may be neglected in Goa, but Lakaki Drycleaners & Art Dyers in Margao has become the first laundry in Goa to adopt concentrating solar technology (CST) for generating hot water and steam for use in the dry cleaning process.
The adoption of this technology has resulted in daily saving of 20 litres of diesel and about 40 KWh of electricity for about 270 operational days in a year, excluding the rainy season. The company informed that it has resulted in a direct cost benefit of Rs 3.7 lakhs per annum.
This solar technology generates steam of 2 to 4 Kg/cm2 and water at 600 c and 900 c. The steam supply is continuous with high dryness fraction, which is directly used for ironing, and hot water is used for washing and starching process.
CST installation at Lataki Drycleaners & Art Dyers was facilitated under a UNDP-GEF project by ministry of new & renewable energy of central government.
“Thanks to the active support and guidance from ministry of new & renewable energy, we have been able to shift to a cleaner source of energy for our daily operations and this has led to substantial savings”, said Venkatesh Naik Dalal, founder, Lakaki drycleaners and Art Dyers.
