Goa Shipyard ceremoniously launched the fifth of the series of Six OPVs, designed in-house and being built by GSL, for the Indian Coast Guard on 5th May 2016 at Goa.
This 105 meter new generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) was launched by Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha in the presence of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, IG S K Goyal, DDG (M&M), ICG, Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd) CMD, GSL and many other senior dignitaries from Government, Navy and Coast Guard.
Addressing the gathering, Mridula Sinha, Governor of Goa said “I am delighted to know that GSL has delivered 2 vessels of this new class CGOPV recently within the contractual timelines, which are contributing significantly towards protecting our EEZ and coast lines more effectively and efficiently. GSL has steadily built up the expertise and skill in undertaking complex shipbuilding projects, thus establishing for itself a niche in the shipbuilding industry”. She further lauded GSL’s role in implementing various Govt. initiatives including Swachha Bharat & Skill India.
This new generation OPV is powered by twin diesel engines and is fitted with state-of-the-art Navigation and Communication Equipment. The vessel carries four boats for boarding party operations. One 30 mm Gun and two 12.7 mm Guns with associated fire control system form the main weaponry package.
