Pharmacies are partners in health

As designated by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Council several years ago at the FIP Congress in Istanbul, September 25 marks the annual World Pharmacists Day. For this day, FIP is encouraging the world's pharmacists to organise activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the world.

FIP announced the inaugural World Pharmacists Day, taking place on September 25, 2010 and since then associations across the world have adopted this day to spread awareness and follow in the footsteps of their fellow associations elsewhere. That year, World Pharmacists Day was set on the theme "Safety first with medicines, ask your pharmacist", a timely and relevant topic as pharmacists around the world continue to work towards a greater role in patient care. They say that each pharmacy in the world serves an average of 120 customers a day. It is with that strenuous service in mind that the World Pharmacy Day was created.

FIP encourages all Member Organisations to plan and implement activities that promote the theme of World Pharmacists Day that are best suited at national levels. Promotional campaigns, connecting to media and, most notably, interaction with patients and the public are key ways in which National Associations - and in turn their own members - may make the best use of World Pharmacists Day for benefit to both the profession and society.

The International Pharmaceutical Federation represents over three million pharmacists across the world. These pharmacies are ‘Your partner in health.” In Goa itself, the hundreds of pharmacies across the state are always around to help customers and doctors alike. The celebrations will also involve a series of workshops and street plays to spread awareness. This will be organized by the Indian Pharmacuetical Association, Chemists and Druggists Association, Goa, the Goa College of Pharmacy, Goa State Pharmacy Association, Alumni of the Goa College of Pharmacy and PES’s Rajaram & Tarabai Bandekar College of Pharmacy.
