Soon, Aadhar number to become compulsory for train bookings

New Delhi

It appears that soon, you will need to furnish your Unique Identity (UID) or Aadhar number for booking a train ticket. This means that if you still don’t have Aadhar Card issued, then you won't be issued a train ticket.

This is seen as one of the biggest push by Indian Railways to tackle the menace of touts and black marketing in bookings of train tickets.

According to sources, Indian Railways is soon going to begin the pilot project for making the UID mandatory in the booking of train tickets.

In the first phase, senior citizens will have to furnish their Aadhar number in order to get concessions in the Senior Citizens quota.

In the second phase of the pilot project, the Freedom fighter and physically handicapped quota will compulsorily have to furnish their Unique Identity Number in order to seek concession in tickets.

Thereafter, all those seeking a reserved ticket on Indian Railways will need to give away their Aadhar number. In the last phase, it will become mandatory for all kinds of ticket bookings, whether reserved or unreserved, to furnish the UID.
