The Department of Bachelor of Business Administration at Don Bosco College organised a five-day event management workshop for second-year BBA students from January 23 to 30, highlighting the growing role of events in Goa’s tourism and corporate sectors.
Marsha D’Souza opened the workshop with a session on the basics of the event management industry. She explained the roles and responsibilities of an event manager and involved students in a practical assignment.
On day two, Barbara Lornei spoke about unconventional and socially relevant events. She discussed organising programmes for senior citizens in old-age homes and planning beach weddings near turtle nesting sites. Students worked in groups on research-based mini projects.
The third day featured Sameer Kapadi, who spoke about outdoor advertising. He introduced mediums such as billboards, wall paintings and mobile vans, and explained concepts including out-of-home (OOH), digital out-of-home (DOOH) and promotional out-of-home (POOH) advertising. Videos and visuals were used to show practical applications.
Kiran Chander, an event manager from Panaji, later addressed the technical and operational aspects of large-scale events. He covered production, food and beverage management, décor, logistics, entertainment and venue planning, and stressed the need for systematic grids and surveillance.
On the final day, entrepreneur Komal Karpade shared her journey of building multiple businesses, including her event management company. She highlighted confidence, knowledge and perseverance as key to success and encouraged students to think about their career goals.
The workshop aimed to give students industry exposure and practical knowledge, presenting event management as a career option and helping them build relevant skills.
