‘Shah Jahan’ quote comes back to haunt Gaude

The collapse of the roof slab of the stage at the under-renovation Kala Academy’s open air auditorium could not have come at a worse moment for Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude, barely a day before the start of the monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly.

Witty as he always is, Fatorda MLA, Vijai Sardesai, didn’t waste time and launched into an all out attack against Gaude alleging that the slab collapse episode was proof of his past allegations of corruption in the KA renovation project.

“I am vindicated” is how Sardesai began his attack and in his inimitable style latched on to Gaude’s ‘Shah Jahan did not call for tenders to build Taj Mahal’ alibi to justify awarding the work without a tender process, to tear into the minister’s defences.

It was exactly a year ago in the monsoon session of 2022 that Gaude had latched on to the argument that even Shah Jahan had not sought any quotations or tenders to build the Taj Mahal.

Clearly, Gaude’s attempt to be witty with the Shah Jahan alibi has come back to haunt him with detractors gunning for his head after the slab collapse and netizens having a ‘Wah Taj’ moment trolling him with memes across social media.
