Best 7-inchers under 7k

We are all spoilt for choice when it comes to tablets these days. It is cheap and easy to own a tablet, and if you don’t have to have an iPad, there are plenty of other choices out there

Best 7-inchers under 7k

What do you really want your tab to do for you? Some of themost obvious and popular activities carried out on tablets are socialnetworking (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), email, casual browsing, gaming, watchingmovies, listening to music and perhaps the odd chat with friends. With theseactivities in mind, it’s recommended that you take a close look at some 7-inchoptions. You don’t have to have the 10-inch plus tablets since you aren’treally going to indulge in too much actual ‘work’! And if you need to get somework done, just turn the tablet around into landscape mode!

Micromax Funbook

Not the newest on the block, but this 7-incher with a 1.2GHzprocessor gets the job done. Social networking, email, chatting and reading. Ofcourse, movies and music are a given! Running Android 4 (at best), the hardwarecould do with a tweak, but at Rs 6,499, don’t be getting greedy about thespecs!

Points to note-

Wi-fi only (no 3G)

4GB internal memory (expandable to 32GB)

Poor camera (just about functional 0.3 mp)

Karbonn Smart Tab 1 and 2

Both the SmartTabs have almost similar specs. Bigdifference: Jelly Bean. The Smart Tab 1 launched barely 6 months ago. It’s beena bestseller for the company but it didn’t have what Jelly Bean needed. Sohere’s v2! And we can assure you that anything running Jelly Bean can’t be bad…well, you know… At Rs 6,699 it isn’t going to pinch your pocket. And Jelly Beanjust makes it all worth it!

Points to note-

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

1.2 GHz processor

Great screen for movies

2MP camera (miles better than the competition)

Wi-fi only (no 3G)

Zync Z-930

You’re wondering where the Samsungs and the Apples and theGoogles of the world are right? What’s Zync? Essentially, it’s a copy of allsub 7k tablets. Chinese made with basic hardware specs (almost standard)including an A8 Cortex 1.2 GHz processor and Wi-fi only connectivity. What’sthe catch? It runs Jelly Bean and costs a full Rs 1,200 less than the Smart Tab2! At Rs 5,499, this is a product worth considering.

Points to note-

Carry pouch included

Wi-fi Only (no 3G)

Andoid 4.1 Jelly Bean

While the three listed above are the most notable, if youare open to stretching your budget by another Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000, you enterthe range of the Kindle Fire and the Google Nexus 7. Neither product has yetlaunched in India officially (the older Kindle Fires are available at someretail outlets), but when they do, they will be worth every penny asked for.

If, however, you are on a strict budget, as you should bewhen buying electronics, and don’t care too much for brand logos, do nothesitate to invest in these cheap options.

Ouch! That smarts (phones)!

Don’t you sometimes long for the days when phones werejust phones, cameras were just cameras and computers were simply boxes in yourliving room?Ok, I admit the dramatic rise in technology and itsconvergence has changed the way we function for the better. But I still findmyself yearning for the days when a face to face conversation wasn’tsubordinate to a mobile ring or a BBM ping. When did we become slaves to our devices?
