Two groups clashed in the commercial capital at Rawanfond on Sunday evening, leaving one person injured with multiple stab wounds.

Twenty year old Rohit Chawan was immediately rushed to Hospicio hospital with stab wounds on his stomach, back and hand and was later shifted to the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim.

The incident occurred in the evening when Rohit along with some boys was on the road, close to his residence, when four persons came on motorcycles and assaulted him with a knife and immediately fled from the scene.

Acting swiftly after receiving information from a member of the fourth estate, the Margao police managed to nab Krishna and Mustaq and are on the look out for Akshay and Aarod. PI Patil claimed that it was Aarod who allegedly attacked Rohit with a knife on his hand, stomach and back.

He said the two groups had come face to face after a verbal duel on Friendship Day, adding they were let off after a warning.

While two of the accused are residents of a colony near the Power house, the other two are believed to be from the Housing Board.

PI Patil said the victim Rohit is out of danger and had spoken to the police before he was shifted to the GMC, Bambolim.

Meanwhile, the assault incident again brought to fore the ambulance service at Hospicio hospital. When the victim Rohit Chawan was brought to the hospital, an ambulance had already left for Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim with patients. Given that the victim had multiple stab wounds, Hospicio doctors advised immediate shifting of Rohit to GMC, Bambolim, but his shifting was delayed for around 45 minutes – this time for want of staff to accompany the victim in the ambulance.

While the ambulance driver was ready to drive the vehicle to the GMC, the absence of staff to accompany the victim, forced the hospital authorities to think otherwise, later deciding to call the 108 Ambulance to shift the victim to Bambolim. However, with the arrival of the 108 ambulance also delayed for some time, the Hospicio ambulance proceeded to Bambolim with the victim and hospital staff.
