Tragedy queen Ophelia passes away

Tragedy Queen of Konkani stage Ophelia D’Souza passed away on Friday morning in Mumbai.

The funeral will be held at Victoria Church in Mahim on Saturday evening.

The 78-year-old veteran actress was born in Socorro village, Bardez.

Ophelia is the wife of noted Konkani actor and director Late Bab Peter. Incidentally Ophelia died on his 11th death anniversary.

Ophelia had a glorious career on Konkani stage for 44 years, after making her debut at 16 years in a tiatr directed by J F Rod.

She was known for her tragedy roles and had an extreme emotional connect with her audiences all over Goa. Besides acting alongside with noted tiatr personalities like C Alvares, M Boyer, Prem Kumar and several others including her husband, she was a versatile singer and featured in several audio cassettes.

Ophelia was also part of popular Konkani movies like ‘Nirmonn’ and ‘Amchem Noxib’, ‘Bhuearantlo Munis’ and ‘Boglant’.

Ophelia also has to her credit the first Konkani video film ‘Faxi Mogachi’ produced by C Alvares, followed by several video films like ‘Tuka Kitem Podlam’ and ‘Natalancho Kusvar’.

The Tragedy Queen had also scripted and directed her own Tiatr ‘Mhoji Bhurguim’, ‘Bailanchi Sobai’ etc while assisting in directing 18 tiatrs produced by her husband Bab Peter.
