Loyola Higher Secondary School, Margao on Friday had their annual ‘Matinée Française’, a morning celebrating France, Francophone countries, the French language and culture. The Matinée was part of the school’s ongoing Platinum Jubilee year celebrations.
Students of class XI and XII, under the guidance of French teacher, Cora Abreu, organised a host of competitions like French duet singing competition, cosplay, quiz, group singing competition and bottle painting. While the latter four competitions were organised for students of LHSS itself, the duet singing competition was organised for school-going students of French. Loyola High School, Fatima Convent, Presentation Convent, Vidya Vikas Academy, the King’s School and Perpetual Succour Convent participated with French renditions of ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran, ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin, and the evergreen ‘Aicha’ by Cheb Khaled to name a few. King’s School won the first place, followed by Fatima Convent with the second place, and Vidya Vikas Academy came in third.
Former HOD of the French Department at Goa University Edith Melo Furtado was the chief guest, while Mitra Borker,hod French, Chowgule College, Carol Miranda, assistant professor of French, Chowgule College and Natasha Gomes, assistant professor of French, GU judged the on-stage events. The event was compered in French and English by two students Rubaica Miranda and Clyde Rodrigues.
