Oppn term Modi's reaction 'too soft too late'
Patna: Congress on Wednesday launched a hard-hitting attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of “selective amnesia” and “abdication of responsibility” in the wake of the Dadri lynching and rejected his description of the incident as “unfortunate”.
“In the midst of a motivated hate campaign orchestrated by the BJP, Prime Minister Modi''s statement brushing aside the Dadri tragedy as merely a ''sad incident'' is extremely unfortunate and inhumane to say the least.
“Modi is suffering from selective amnesia. He has forgotten that he is the Prime Minister of entire country and safety and protecting the life of 125 crore citizens of India is his responsibility,” AICC communication department in-charge Randeep Surjewala said.
NCP president Sharad Pawar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi''s statement on the Dadri lynching incident had come too late, and his government was bereft of “tolerance”.
“Tolerance is nowhere to be seen in the current regime. Serious crimes like murder take place only upon rumours. This presents our (country's) image very negatively. Modi's statement has come so many days after the incident. I agree that law and order is a state subject, but in sensitive matters such as these, action should have been taken by the Centre,” Pawar told reporters here.Reacting sharply, RJD president Lalu Prasad said, “What kind of breaking of silence is this ? ... Its like beating someone and then saying sorry ... This is no way.” “BJP, RSS and Modi are the same. They say something in the evening but their voice changes in the morning,” Prasad posted on Twitter.
The RJD chief's strong reaction came following Modi's interview to Bengali daily Ananda Bazar Patrika in which he accused the opposition of indulging in “pseudo secularism” and “politics of polarisation”, and described the Dadri lynching incident and the cancellation of Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai as “undesirable and unfortunate”.
The Left Front in West Bengal also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over recent incidents of communal violence in the country saying his “silence” over the issue was “provoking” such incidents.
Left Front chairman Biman Bose said that the country had turned unrecognisable in the last one year and five months of rule by Narendra Modi, saying people always lived in harmony for ages here.
“His silence on various incidents of communal violence is provoking communal incidents in the country. The Modi government in the last one year and five months has turned the country into a place which is unknown to all of us. This is a country where people have been living in harmony for ages,” Bose told reporters.
