Rs 200 for a police clearance certificate?

I, along with my brother and sister, applied at Calangute Police station for police clearance certifi cates, which we have already received aft er making several visits to the Calangute Police station.

The PCCs are No 49/152 and Sr. No 50/152, dated the July 13,and 51/152 dated July 11. I have noticed and also inquired during the time ofsubmitting my application about the irregularity of the police demanding withme rupees 200 per application while the receipt only has printed amount ofRupees 100. I did not pursue much the case as you are aware how one can getvindictive and torment the common man, if they dare to question the police. Iwant to inform you that I also waited for all three certifi cates to arrive andam now bringing the irregularity to your notice.

One does not have to be charged such high fees just for merecertifi cates. Such high fees are not justifi ed and this amounts to daylightrobbery. I have noticed that even the collector is charging high fees of Rupees200 for simple adjudication of documents. Thanking you,

Antonio Lopes, Calangute
