The recent incident of kidnapping of a 3-year-old child at Margao railway platform depicts lack of suitable security measures. Over the years, many robberies have taken place and some of the culprits making good their escape by trains the very night or early morning. With lack of adequate fencing around this station, illegalities have been increasing. No doubt, CCTV cameras have been installed, the need of the hour is to initiate strict security measures so as to assure safety and protection to innocent commuters occupying this railway station. CID personnel must be deputed during peak hours and also during the night. Persons moving suspiciously at the railway platform should be detained and thoroughly interrogated. The railway authorities should see to it that CCTV cameras remain functional for 24 hours throughout.
