The Corporation of the City of Panaji has so far failed to bring about change or improvement with regards to Panaji’s congestion issue. The one vehicle that should have done that, was the pay parking scheme introduced over a year ago, but from May 1 that scheme will be non-existent and there’s no telling when it will be reintroduced.
The deal with contractor Straight Deal Services is now over, as of April 30. So the CCP has asked the public not to hand over any money in terms of payment to any fee agents on the street, until the public are notified of any changes in the contractor. This is clear mismanagement on the part of the CCP. The fact that the contract will cease to be valid on April 30 would not be a new development, which probably means that the CCP has dragged its feet with either renewing the contract with the existing contractor or finding a new one. The latter option should have been the only one, considering that only a few months ago, Straight Deal Services was found to have defaulted on payments to the CCP, for which the corporation should also be held responsible for not highlighting this earlier. Clearly the people in charge haven’t thought anything through.
