Quicker procedure
With reference to the letter titled ‘Long-winded procedures’ in The Goan Everyday, June 21 (by Ashok Belani from Vasco), it is rather disturbing to note that cancellation of hyphothecation at the RTO office takes almost a month. Such a practice causes great inconvenience and trouble to the general public. The pace of work at some of the government departments tends to be very slow and it is ultimately the citizens who face untold hardships in the process. It is absolutely necessary that the procedures at the government departments are streamlined so that official work gets completed at a faster speed. Every one of us already knows the time involved in getting work done at offices like the Mamlatdar, RTO, village panchayats and the like. Work of visitors should not be delayed at any instance. What the citizens deserve is efficient service in completion of their work. With the government servants likely to get benefits of the 7th pay commission, it is necessary that delayed tactics at government offices are done away with. Innocent citizens must be delivered efficient service at all costs.

False promises
It is observed that many a times ministers and elected representatives lay the foundation stones of major projects it their respective constituencies just before the onset of the monsoon. The question to be asked is why do politicians indulge in the laying of foundation stones of projects before the onset of the rainy season when it is clear that the work on the project can start only after the monsoon? Why not wait for the monsoon to recede and then lay the corner stone and start the work of the project right away? The government should see to it that the time gap between the laying of the foundation stone and actual commencement of the work is minimal. Many a time it so happens that after the corner stone is laid the project is altogether forgotten. Then, for several years, the foundation stone stands as a mute testimony of a project that did not see the light of day, of a project that was only a false promise.

Swift sentencing
Referring the to news report on The Goan Everyday on June 20, regarding the chargesheeting of tiatrist Anthony Fernandes, the government is urged to make murderers a priority and enforce stringent laws. The cases must be defended in a fast track court so that the matter is over quickly and justice can be delivered swiftly. Imagine the plight of the victims and of their families, their agony and suffering. The murderers must also be convicted as quickly so that even the families see justice delivered quickly. This could set an example to criminals and perhaps prevent future crimes.
