MARGAO
FC Bardez and Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim were involved in a goalless draw in the GFA Pro League at Rosary ground, Navelim on Sunday. Cavelossim had their goalkeeper Agnelo Gomes to thank for the point they earned after he saved a second half penalty taken by Peter Carvalho.
Both the teams started the game on cautious note but Cavelossim sounded a warning in the fourth minute when lanky striker Aaren D'Silva unleashed a snap shot, which was well blocked by FC Bardez goalkeeper.
At the other end, it was a lucky escape for Cavelossim in the 39th minute when Bardez's striker Koko Sakibo timed his volley well, but Cavelossim goalkeeper Agnelo denied the Nigerian. After that minor scare, Cavelossim nearly broke the deadlock in the 40th minute but striker Mathew Colaco muffed a sitter with only rival goalkeeper to beat. FC Bardez had another chance before the break but Sakibo failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in a one to one situation.
Post resumption, both the teams showed urgency and launched a flurry of attacks. FC Bardez spurned the best chance for the either side in the match after Agnelo saved a Peter Carvalho spot kick after Saikibo was brought down by defender Cresson Antao inside the penalty box in the 50th minute.
After the reprieve, the Cavelossim lads went all out with striker Daulat Dessai and Gammy Costa working in tandem to put the rival defence under some pressure. But the duo was unable to find a breakthrough.
In other match of the day at 3MTR ground, Navelim, Corps of Signals blanked Vasco Sports Club 2-0.
