Another referendum please
The unexpected decision of the British people to leave the EU has left the future of UK, its people and its economy, in an uncertain future, amidst unity among the other EU members to isolate UK and not to offer any concessions to it on the issue of the “four freedoms” of goods, workers, services and capital. The people of UK seem to have realized their mistake and are asking for a fresh referendum to undo their error. The hesitancy of UK in invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty for a formal divorce with the EU and David Cameron’s smart decision to resign and allow the new PM to start the process shows that UK has realised its inadvertent error on the issue of Brexit. The issue of Portuguese passports will get even hotter as the time limit for a formal disengagement for the UK is two years after it, if at all, issues a formal notice of divorce with the EU. We can only hope the UK Parliament decides to go for another referendum to undo its June 23 vote for Brexit so that Goans can once again hope for better prospects in UK.

True development
AAP proclaims to be people’s party, assuring to take all stakeholders into confidence to preserve not only heritage and culture but to protect and preserve Goa for posterity. They will do by undoing the follies of present and past rulers and reverting Goa to its pristine glory. If so why has AAP entertained the membership of Devendra Prabhudessai and his ilk who are staunch supporters of anti-environment Greenfield airport? Projects like dredging of MPT are given a go without proper environmental clearances as confirmed by the president of NGT, advocate Assim Sarode.
Iconic leaders do what is right with no fear of being elected or rejected. Goa is too tiny compared to other states of India and it no longer has the carrying capacity, with density of population crossing its limits and its natural resources being depleted. And if the airport sees the light of the day then it will only unleash the misery on Goans as there will be unrestricted influx of migrants, reducing Goans to a minority, thus igniting ethnic wars as in Sri Lanka, Palestine etc. True development is where every citizen enjoys the basic necessities of life, besides peace and security so that he can unravel his potential and contribute to the advancement of the society.
The work that Arvind Kejriwal is doing as Delhi CM is laudable inspite of all odds. Pray that he imbibes the values of great rulers of yore like Ashoka the emperor and others who did least environmental damage as they focused less on construction and destruction of environment but more on safeguarding and multiplying the natural resources as narrated by our ancestors who enjoyed good food and breathed fresh air where there was no need of appliances like air conditioners etc.
