It was an integral part of his manifesto and less than three
months after being sworn in an President of the United
States, Donald Trump has taken the first step to repeal
Obamacare. Surrounded with his political team Trump spent
a good deal of the day strategising how to overhaul America’s
health care system and Obamacare went out of the window.
Vice President Mike Pence, on Saturday, spoke boldly
on how Obamacare has drained Americans of their savings
since it was put in force. He said, “Here are the heart-breaking
facts: today, Americans are paying $3,000 more a year
on average for health insurance than before the day Obamacare
was signed into law.” He further went to point out
that Obama’s last year was highlighted with a spike in medical
insurance premiums which went up by 25%. Making it
even simpler for the average American, he promised that
people would be able to buy insurance across state lines,
just as they can buy car insurance. Even as Trump aims to
cement his term in office with a better health care system
for US citizens, the initiative to scrap Obamacare has come
under criticism from within the President’s camp, especially
the Senate. This clearly indicates that Trump’s health care
plan for the average American would require a few checkups
before it comes into play.
