Problems at Margao bus stand

The manner in which the private bus-operators took on the ‘challan-wielding' RTO officials and laid siege to the Margao bus stand recently was an example of the ‘unhappiness' expressed by them against the issue of official notice of various traffic offences by the Transport authorities. But the flash-strike resorted to by the bus-operators and bringing to a halt the movement of all buses, including the Kadamba ones, to and from the Margao bus stand will in no way win them the support of the general public who were inconvenienced to no end, and for no fault of theirs. In fact this move by the RTO would have come as a ‘sequel' to the miraculous escape a 16-year-old girl student from Navelim had after she was flung out of a moving over-crowded bus on Monday afternoon. Now, let us not act ignorant to the fact that the ‘over' factor is a perennial feature of private-buses.! Even the RTO and the traffic cell is well aware of these incongruities, but some ‘compulsions' obviously make them turn a blind eye to such discrepancies. Moreover, the ever-increasing number of buses on the roads with each passing day makes it difficult to comprehend the lamentations of the bus-operators over the ‘economics of profits' with regard to their business.
