Provide proof

With the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress echoing the doubts raised by the foreign media over claims made by the Centre of surgical strikes in PoK, the government is under pressure to provide more proof. Pakistan denied the raids had taken place. Not many believed Islamabad which was attempting to play down the strikes in order to stave
off pressure to retaliate. However, when the foreign media raised doubts, AAP, which had saluted PM Narendra Modi for the strikes and Congress which had backed the government, joined the bandwagon of the doubters. In reality, all we have to go by is the word of the army and the government, with no evidence to back their claims. Had the government to release
a few photographs at the press conference, all doubts would
have been laid to rest. Now the government has the ignominious
job of proving that it happened. It is learnt that the army
has given the go ahead to release videotapes of the strikes to
the general public. Modi must release evidence quickly or else
doubt and suspicion will spread and a successful military operation
will get mired in controversy.
