With the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress echoing the doubts raised by the foreign media over claims made by the Centre of surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the government is under pressure to provide more proof. Pakistan denied the raids had taken place. Not many believed Islamabad which was attempting to play down the strikes in order to stave off pressure to retaliate. However, when the foreign media raised doubts, AAP, which had saluted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the strikes and Congress which had backed the government, joined the bandwagon of the doubters. In reality, all we have to go by is the word of the army and the government, with no evidence to back their claims. Had the government to release a few photographs at the press conference, all doubts would have been laid to rest. Now the government has the ignominious job of proving that it happened. We were told that the strikes were video-taped by the army and a live feed was provided to the army headquarters. It is learnt that the army has given the go ahead to release these videotapes to the general public. Prime Minister Narendra Modi must release evidence quickly or else doubt and suspicion will spread and a successful military operation will get mired in controversy.
