Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar has alleged that around 1.39 lakh voter names in Goa have been fraudulently deleted from the recent SIR electoral rolls exercise by the Election Commission. Accordingly, Chodankar has demanded the immediate restoration of all eligible voter names that were deleted without even being served any prior notice.
With barely 4-5 months remaining for the Goa Assembly polls, questions are being raised as to whether Goa will also meet with the same fate as Bihar and Bengal, to the advantage of the BJP. While the Election Commission has now ordered a revision of electoral rolls, is there any guarantee that the exercise will be completed in a satisfactory manner before the forthcoming Assembly polls? It is time to wake up, be wary and act before being lulled into complacency with false assurances. Once bitten, twice shy should be our motto.
