80 percent of civil and electricity work in Dabolim's new airport has been completed

Dabolim: Countdown to take-off

Work on the new airport terminus at Dabolim is going on athectic pace on ground zero, even as Airport Authority of India have confirmedthat the new terminus would be thrown open within six months from now.

The new airport terminus is spread across 45 acres and thetotal work space/usable area would be 61,700 sq mts.

“80 percent of civil and electricity work has beencompleted. By the end of December 2012, 85 percent of the work will becompleted,” said M Suresh, Director of Airport Authority of India.

70 percent of the interiors vis-à-vis glass panes on bothsides of the new terminus, flooring, false roofing and air conditioning havebeen completed.

The full building design and the outer work as well as theinteriors have been outsourced to CCCL, a company from Delhi.

With the new terminus the airport will cater to 2,700passengers during the peak.

There will be five aerobridges for normal aircrafts andthree for light body aircrafts.

Increase in work space will witness a hike in the securitystaff by 30 percent, which is needed to secure the building, the AAI directorsaid.

The commercial area in the new premises would be 1/3rd ofthe 62,000 sq mt. Rest of the area will be left for the passengers to use.

Shops and other commercial establishments have not yet beenallotted space and tenders are yet to be floated.

AAI will call for the tenders with the stage wise completionof the project, M Suresh said.

90 percent work on new multilevel parking has beencompleted.
