Goans commemorate Feast in Dublin

MELBOURNE

The Goan Catholic community in Ireland came together in faith and unity to celebrate the Feast of St Francis Xavier on November 22 at the historic St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Gardiner Street Upper, Dublin.

The celebration began at 4 pm with a special Konkani Mass, drawing Goans from across Dublin and neighbouring regions to honour the beloved patron saint of Goa.

The Mass was concelebrated by Fr Concy Pinto of the Society of Pilar, Fr Brendan Comerford, and Fr Robin Vazhaparambil Antony, who together led the congregation in worship and thanksgiving.

A special highlight this year was the presence of the main celebrant Fr Concy Pinto, who was specially brought from the UK while on holidays to celebrate the Feast with the Goan community. His participation added a meaningful touch, strengthening the spiritual bond between Goans in Ireland and their clergy abroad.

The liturgy was elevated by a soulful choir that performed traditional Konkani hymns. Floscy Gracias, who led and organised the choir, received heartfelt praise for her dedication in bringing together talented members and ensuring that the hymns resonated deeply with the cultural and spiritual identity of the Goan community. The music rekindled cherished memories of Novenas and festive celebrations back home in Goa.

This year’s gathering highlighted the strength and togetherness of the Goan diaspora in Ireland, reaffirming their commitment to preserving their faith, language, and traditions.

St Francis Xavier, known as the Apostle of the Indies, continues to inspire Goans worldwide, and this Dublin celebration stood as a testament to his enduring legacy.

The event was coordinated by a dedicated organising team comprising Desmon and Fatima Cardozo, Floscy Gracias,  and Luis Fernandes, whose teamwork ensured a smooth, meaningful, and spiritually enriching celebration. Their efforts brought families, friends, and well-wishers together for an evening of prayer, fellowship, and cultural pride.

The celebration concluded with heartfelt gratitude extended to the priests, choir, volunteers, organisers, and everyone who participated, making the Feast of St Francis Xavier a memorable and uplifting occasion for the Goan community in Ireland.
