Easter is a festival associated with renewal and birth. It is also associated with lots of mouth-watering delicacies. A number of enthusiastic bakers from around Goa are coming up with Easter-themed cakes and cookies that apart from having an amazing taste, showcase innovative in order to celebrate the spirit of Easter. Brainard Colaco, owner of Mog ckace studio from Margao has a long tradition of creating Easter special products with different designs every year. “We do not create typical Easter designs but try to do something new and innovative every year. This year, we have new Easter egg designs. We have introduced egg-shaped doughnuts, cake-puffs shaped like chickens. We are developing eggs shaped like baby animals,” informs Colaco while elaborating about his Easter special products. He focuses on creating child-friendly designs, and his products cost between Rs 130-300. “We have Easter eggs that have chocolate from outside and marshmallows on the inside, and bigger eggs that have assorted toys which you find when you break them” says Colaco, adding that 70% of his products have been sold out as of April 20.
Shraddha Assoldekar from Merces who is also interested in baking is making efforts to pioneer a new trend this Easter-hand-painted cookies. “ Themed products are in great demand today, which has led to a number of new designs in this sector. Cookies are a good gift to give someone, and hand-painted cookies are a new trend. Cookies make a good return-gifts for significant occasions because that’s a type of sweets that lasts longer than most other sweets. I am trying to introduce personalised cookies in my baking.” Assoldekar state. While painting Easter-themed designs such as bunnies, eggs and carrots, she has also replicated a number of paintings by some Goan artists on her cookies. Assoldekar is currently working on hand-painted Easter cookies as a pilot project, but hopes the venture could spark demand.
