Today we celebrate Easter Sunday. The day bears deep significance. Easter Sunday marks the day Jesus Christ resurrected after crucification. Apart from that, the festival also draws its origins from the Pagan festival celebrating renewal and rebirth. Due to this fusion of traditions over centuries, Easter has come to be associated with bunnies-one of the fastest breeding animals, and has developed a number of interesting traditions such as Easter eggs, chocolates etc.
Thanks to its history of Portuguese rule, Easter is also a major festival in Goa, and the state is currently buzzing with a host of different events including lunches, dinners, and of course Easter egg hunts for people across all ages. Additionally, chocolates, cookies, cakes, and other goodies are adding their own delicious flavour to the festivities.
Top hotels in Goa are offering a rich spread of dishes his Easter. Fortune Miramar is offering a four-course Easter meal with delicacies with a mix of delicacies from different parts of the world. “For soups we have Middle Eastern Moroccan chicken and lentil soup, and the Indian soup shorba-e-barkus, which is a mutton shorba,” informs chef Samir Giri. “For appetizers, we have the Malvani platter marinating with seafood such as squids, prawns, and snapper grilled on the tandoor. Plus,there’s chicken wings marinated in sauce.” the establishment also offers a vegetarian menu for the event.
Similarly, Taj group of hotels is also hosting an Easter feast across all its properties in Goa. One of its popular hotels, Vivanta is holding an Easter brunch that showcases a rich menu with Goan style roast chicken, Indian style lamb chops, and other traditional Goan dishes such as pork vindaloo, roast beef, Goan prawn curry and others, informed Jose Thomas, executive chef at Taj Vivanta, Panaji.
The Taj property at Fort Aguada is also organising an Easter special brunch “We have honey-glazed pork ham, smoked pork which will be carved and served cold, and another speciality here is our deserts,” says Hrudananda Behra, executive chef of Taj Fort Aguada. Taj is known for experimenting with different tastes and designs, and the tradition has continued this Easter, says the Chef. “The season of berries is about to end, and we are using lots of berries such as cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc in our deserts for the festival.” Apart from that, there are Easter specialities such as egg-nest cake, Easter pudding rich with almonds and nut powder.
On the other hand, Grand Hyatt is offering two buffets, alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic, comprising of around 120 dishes in its Easter brunch. Along with that there will also be a special egg-hunt programme for kids.
