Tiatr has a great and rich history of 127 years. Over the years it was the Tiatr performance that took centre stage and Tiatr was seen only as a medium of performing arts. For the last few weeks, a wind of change seems to be blowing and all of a sudden academics in Tiatr has begun to catch the eye of the Tiatr lovers. As our readers read this column now, The first International Tiatr Convention is being held at Ravindra Bhavan Margao. Last Sunday this review team visited a literary work of Isidore Dantas, Alfred Rose The King Of Melody. We are touched by the appreciatory messages received for our last two columns and so this week too we visit the commemorative volume of the yesteryear tiatrists, released by the 125th Anniversary of Tiatr Celebrations Committee formed by the government to celebrate the great landmark of Tiatr. This commemorative volume is in fact one of the greatest activities of the committee besides the presentation of the Classic Tiatr Festival last year.
Goan Tiatr is indeed a unique form of performing arts, in which our Tiatrists present their rich experiences in the form of prose lyrics and music. Among all performing arts forms, it is the Tiatrists who have made the full usage of the freedom of speech and expression, enshrined in the Constitution of our country to bring awareness among the Goan diaspora settled all over the world, about issues pertaining to Goa Goemkar and Goemkarponn.
Tiatr “ 125th Anniversary Commemorative Volume, is a book in coffee-table size layout which contains a treasure of authentic information about the Tiatr artistes of yesteryears and their invaluable contribution to the Goan Tiatr Stage. This book can surely be regarded as an effort by the present day Tiatrists and journalists to preserve the sacrifices made by the founding fathers of Tiatr and their successors for posterity and it will serve as an authentic source of information to the researchers and students delving into the history of Tiatr.
Tomazinho Cardozo is the chief editor and his editorial board consists of Irene Cardozo, Michael Gracias, Fausto V da Costa, Dr Rafael Fernandes and Wiliam Rodrigues. There are eleven writers who have contributed in the making of this book. These include three journalists Fausto V Da Costa, Michael Gracias and Pio Esteves. The others are Irene Cardozo, Sharon Mazarello, Dr. Rafael Fernandes, Dr. Cosme Fernandes, Tomazinho Cardozo, Wilson Mazarelo, Joe Rose and William Fernandes.
The Book is divided into ten chapters and according to the fields of contribution put in by our late tiatrists in that particular field that they contributed, their names feature in that particular chapter. The chapters are
