Stating that the government is very much serious in addressing the Sonsodo issue, Waste Management Minister, Michael Lobo on Saturday said people will begin to see a change at Sonsodo once the bio-remediation starts in the first week of November.

He further said that the government is ready to get the contractor deploy two or more machines to remediate and rid Sonsodo of the 2.35 lakh metric tonnes of waste within a year’s time.

“My government will resolve the Sonsodo mess. We are very much serious. There may be some persons who have jokingly said the Sonsodo waste can be taken to Saligao for treatment. Let us all be serious in addressing the issue,” he told the media, adding the remediation of the waste will take place either by October end or first week of November. “The pre-bid meeting with the bidders will take place within the next 8-10 days before the work order is issued to the contractor,”

he said.

On his statement that Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco will become a deputy chief minister in the future, Lobo said the Congress Curtorim MLA has been as good as a leader of the opposition over the years. “He not only deserves a place in the Cabinet, but deserves a big position in the form of deputy chief minister,” he said.

When asked whether there’s any possibility of Reginaldo joining the BJP, Lobo said the Curtorim MLA has made it clear that he would like to remain in the opposition and raise issues affecting the people and the State. “Two years to go for the election and it’s for the people of Curtorim to re-elect him. Then, we will see that Reginaldo makes it into the Cabinet and occupies a big position,” he added.
