Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday claimed that while Goa is the only State in the country to have a number of schemes for all sections of people, there has been very poor response to these schemes.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a Customer Outreach initiative at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, to provide one-stop destination for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), retail businesses and to access all bank services especially loans.
The event has been organised by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI) and other nationalised banks.
This programme was a part of a systematic bank reform process which is envisioned to take banks at the doorsteps, increase the ease of customer access and delivery of services and also to revive festival spirit in the state. As many as 22 financial institutions participated in the event which was tagged “Tyohaaron ka Rang, Man mein Umang, Bankon ke Sang’.”
Stressing on importance of centrally sponsored schemes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister appealed to Goans to register themselves under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) via any Nationalised Bank as these schemes provide insurance cover in the event of death or disability due to an accident.
“Goa is the only state in our country which has many schemes for all sections of people, but receives a very poor response,” said Sawant.
Mentioning the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), the chief minister said the outreach programme is aimed to bring awareness among the general public and to provide them access to credit including retail, agriculture, vehicle and home loans through banks. He urged the public to take advantage of the services provided by these banks.
Others present on the occasion were Secretary for Finance Daulat Hawaldar, G Ravindranath (Chief General Manager, SBI), Sanjay Kumar (General Manager, SBI), Carlos De Sa (Joint Managing Director, Economic Development Corporation), Prashant Naik (Deputy General Manager, Bank of India), Amulya Kumar (Deputy General Manager, Bank of Baroda), Ananthpalli Sharada Murthy (Deputy General Manager, Corporation Bank), M V R Ravi Kumar (Deputy General Manager, SBI), Prashant Kumar, Deputy General Manager, Union Bank and Shri Gururaj Kaiwar (Deputy General Manager, Indian Overseas Bank).
Finance Secretary Daulat Hawaldar complimented the participating banks and appealed to entrepreneurs to start a business with limited loan without the need for an unlimited loan.
On the occasion, the chief minister gave sanction letters to beneficiaries and pass books to children.
