LONDON
Goan-origin Councillor Floyd Dias Do Rosario, representing Wembley Hill Ward in the London Borough of Brent, has been part of a landmark licensing decision believed to be the first refusal of an Adult Gaming Centre application in Brent Council’s history.
The decision was taken by Brent Council’s Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Sub-Committee, on which Councillor Dias Do Rosario serves.
The committee, chaired by Councillor Parvez Ahmed and including Councillor Fiona Mulaisho, unanimously refused an application for an Adult Gaming Centre in Willesden Green following careful consideration of the evidence, representations from interested parties, and concerns raised by local residents.
The decision is being viewed as a significant milestone in Brent’s licensing process and reflects the council’s commitment to responsible licensing, community safety, transparency, and the wellbeing of local communities.
Originally from Agassaim, Councillor Dias Do Rosario has become an active figure in public life in the United Kingdom while maintaining strong ties with his native Goa and the wider Goan community.
Before entering elected office, he was involved in community support and casework, assisting residents with council-related issues and advocating on matters affecting both Goans in the UK and people in Goa.
In addition to representing Wembley Hill Ward, Councillor Dias Do Rosario serves on Brent Council’s Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Sub-Committee and is a Substitute Member of both the Audit & Standards Committee and the Community & Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee.
Speaking about public service to The Goan, Councillor Dias Do Rosario said he has consistently highlighted the importance of community safety, tackling anti-social behaviour, improving local infrastructure, ensuring transparency in public spending, and giving stronger representation to under-represented communities.
“My participation in this historic licensing decision marks another milestone for Goan representation in local government in the United Kingdom and highlights the growing contribution of the Goan diaspora to public service and civic leadership abroad,” he said.
“I have been nominated to represent Brent on the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority. My job is to make sure Brent residents get value for the money our council contributes, to oversee how the park is managed, and to support projects that protect the environment and improve recreational facilities. I’ll make sure Brent’s voice is heard when important decisions are made.”
