MARGAO: Varca Sports Club registered a solitary goal win against Sporting Club Davorlim to enter the quarter-finals of the Cana Benaulim Panchayat cup inter-village football tournament, at Dando football ground, Benaulim on Monday.
Davorlim had to be blame themselves for the defeat after missing easy scoring chances with the culprits being Velroy Colaco and Ajay Raj. Varca SC had to thank their goalkeeper Francis who made three brilliant saves. At the end of the first session, Davorlim wasted a golden opportunity when skipper Inamdar’s penalty struck the cross piece. The penalty was awarded when Varca goalkeeper brought down Delton Colaco inside the box.
Varca SC scored the match winner at the start of the second session when a curling free-kick from Joeburn Cardozo past goalkeeper Avin Vales.
The man of the match award was presented to Joeburn Cardozo of Varca SC by Anthony Leo Fernandes one of the football promoter of Benaulim and GFA executive committee member.
