MAPUSA: The Church of Our Lady of Flight at Cunchelim will celebrate the golden jubilee of its elevation to an independent parish with a special Eucharistic celebration on Saturday, October 31, at 4 pm. Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão will be the main celebrant, followed by a cultural programme. The parish attained independent status on October 30, 1977, when its chapel, earlier affiliated to St Jerome Parish, Mapusa, was elevated under the leadership of the late Fr José João Ramiro Mascarenhas. It was also dedicated to Our Lady of Flight (Nossa Senhora da Fuga). The Catholic community traces its roots to around 1594. A major renovation in 2019 preserved the church’s original façade while adding a new wing.
