Five Goans among eight lead at chess tourney

Eight players, including five from Goa, are leading with four points each at the end of fourth round of the All India Fide Rating Rudreshwar Chess Tournament here on Wednesday.

The tournament, which began yesterday, is being played atGaspar Dias Hall in Miramar.

Niraj Saripalli, Nitish Belurkar, Anirudh Bhat, Riya Savant,Rajas Chari (all Goans), Prem Raj K (AP), Dhiraj Patil (Maharashta) and ChavdaManubhai (Gujarat) are in the lead with four points each.

In the second position are seven players with 3.5 pointseach. They are Nandini Saripalli, Sumit Asnodkar, Saeesh Bandodkar, Ameya Audi,Shubham Sawaikar, Ravindra Nikam and Ajit Dabhade.

Footballer Samir Naik gets Dilip Sardessai Award

International footballer and a member of gold medal winning team at 2011 SAFF Games Samir S Naik on Wednesday received the Dilip Sardessai Award for 2011-12.
