The Goa Union of Journalists has served suspension notices to 49 members and termination notices to two of its members. As per GUJ Special General Body meeting in August 2019, the GUJ Executive Committee was empowered to restructure members of the Goa Union of Journalists into three categories (ordinary members, associate members and honorary members), as per the GUJ Constitution, and suspend/terminate membership of those members who are found guilty of violating Article 5, 6, 7, 8 and 26 of the GUJ Constitution.Of the 51 members, 40 have been served GUJ membership suspension notice under Articles 8 and 26 of the GUJ Constitution (members are either no longer working journalists or have changed their profession), nine members have been served GUJ membership suspension notice under Article 7 and 26 of the GUJ Constitution (members have migrated to other states for work purpose) and two members have been served GUJ membership termination notice under Articles 5/d and 26 of the GUJ Constitution (who are employed/promoted on a higher managerial position than of an editor).

All 51 members have been given a 15 days’ notice to reply and update GUJ on the status of their employment in the field of journalism failing which GUJ membership of the concerned member shall stand suspended or terminated. A copy of the GUJ constitution is available with any of the GUJ office bearers. Those members interested in a copy for more clarifications can contact president Rajtilak Naik, secretary Vasudev Pagi or treasurer Kailas Naik.
