In light of the approaching festival of Ganesh Chathurthi in September, social worker and youth leader from Curchorem Amit Patkar has initiated free classes in ghumat and shamel for children and youth of Curchorem in association with Kala Samrajya Curchorem.
The free classes will be guided by Shambhu Naik Mule and participants would be trained to play ghumat and shamel which are used in every household during Chathurthi.Dipti Patkar, mother of Amit Patkar inaugurated the Classes by lighting traditional lamp along with other dignitaries.
In his statement Patkar said,” Our culture and traditions are our roots and keeping them alive and passing to generations is our responsibility. Thus we decided to have free classes in ghumat and shamel for children and Youth from Curchorem and surrounding areas as during Chaturthi these instruments bring festive vibes. We have expert teachers who will train participants over 3 weekends." The training will be conducted on weekends over 3 weeks. Many children and youth have registered for the classes.
