“Our education should focus on different aspects of literature. In the early days itself, a child should be asked to present poems, stories and also literature from other languages,” stated eminent Hindi writer and poet Arun Kamal as he inaugurated the fourth edition of Konkani Bhasha Mandal’s Bal Sahitya Parishad.
Arun further said, “In children’s literature, pictures or illustrations are very important. A writer and illustrator, together make the best piece of children’s literature.”
The founder of ‘Books That Speak’ Asawari Doshi presented her views on ‘Audio-Visual children’s literature’ on day one and on day two, the founder of ‘ThinkArts’ Ruchira Das and theatre maker and storyteller Nisha Abdulla spoke on the ‘Importance of children’s theatre’.
On November 5 eminent Hindi translator Madan Soni will speak on ‘Translating books’ while on November 6, eminent illustrator Proiti Roy will speak on ‘Pictures in children’s literature’.
On the last day of the Parishad (November 7), writers Prashanti Talpankar, Harsha Shetye, Abhijeet Pagi, Govind Mopkar, and artists Heramb Kirtani and Keatan Jadhav will address the ‘Presentation of children’s literature’ session.
KBM has organised a children’s literature competition for teachers across Goa. The last day to submit entries for Monologue, play writing, short story writing, nursery rhyme writing, biography writing and comic strip competitions is November 10.
